Description

Ferroin indicator solution is a chemical solution used as an indicator in redox titrations. It consists of an iron complex, typically ferroin, dissolved in a solvent, often water or alcohol. Ferroin is a coordination compound containing iron(II) ions coordinated with an organic ligand, such as 1,10-phenanthroline. Ferroin indicator solution typically exhibits a reddish-orange color in its reduced form and changes to a blue-green color upon oxidation. It is commonly employed in titrations involving oxidation-reduction reactions, where it serves as an indicator of the endpoint by undergoing a color change corresponding to the oxidation state of the analyte.
