Benzoyl chloride is primarily used in organic synthesis as a reagent for the introduction of benzoyl (C6H5CO) groups into various compounds. It is also employed in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyes, perfumes, and plastics. Additionally, benzoyl chloride is used in the production of benzoyl peroxide, a common ingredient in acne medications and polymerization initiators.
