AMMONIUM PURPURATE, also known as MUREXIDE, is a purple crystalline solid with the chemical formula C8H8N6O6·2H2O. It is the ammonium salt of purpuric acid. AMMONIUM PURPURATE is commonly used as an indicator in complexometric titrations, particularly for the determination of calcium and magnesium ions. It is also used in the preparation of ink, as a dye for silk and wool, and in the synthesis of other organic compounds.
