Description
Ferrous sulphide sticks are solid rods or sticks made of ferrous sulphide (FeS). These sticks are primarily used in chemistry laboratories as a source of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) gas through the reaction:
FeS(s) + 2HCl(aq) → FeCl2(aq) + H2S(g)
Hydrogen sulphide gas produced from this reaction is often used in qualitative analysis, particularly in the identification of metal ions based on their precipitation reactions. Ferrous sulphide sticks provide a convenient and controlled way to generate small amounts of hydrogen sulphide gas for analytical purposes.
