Description
CONGO RED is a synthetic dye that appears as a red powder. It is commonly used as a pH indicator, turning blue at pH 3.0-5.0 and red at pH 5.0-6.8. CONGO RED is also used in histology to stain amyloid deposits red and in microbiology to differentiate between bacteria based on their ability to bind the dye.
