Description

ANTIMONY POTASSIUM TARTARATE, also known as TARTAR EMETIC, is a white crystalline powder with the chemical formula K(SbO)C4H4O6·½H2O. It is a double salt of antimony and potassium with tartaric acid. ANTIMONY POTASSIUM TARTARATE has been historically used in medicine as an emetic (to induce vomiting) and in the treatment of parasitic infections. However, its use has declined due to its toxicity. In addition to its medical uses, ANTIMONY POTASSIUM TARTARATE is used in analytical chemistry as a reagent for the detection of copper and in some industries as a mordant in dyeing and printing textiles.
