Description

ANTHRONE is a crystalline compound with the chemical formula C14H10O. It is a yellow to greenish-yellow solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. ANTHRONE is commonly used in analytical chemistry as a reagent for the determination of carbohydrates, particularly in the determination of sugars such as glucose. It reacts with sugars under acidic conditions to produce a blue-green color, which can be measured spectrophotometrically. ANTHRONE is also used in the production of certain types of dyes.
