Description

Acetamide is an organic compound with the formula CH3CONH2. It is a white, deliquescent crystalline solid, soluble in water and polar organic solvents. It is used as a plasticizer and industrial solvent. In the lab, it is used as a precursor to thioacetamide, a common reagent in organosulfur chemistry. Acetamide has also been used as a medication for epilepsy, as a fungicide, and as a plasticizer for clay, concrete, and linseed oil.
